Episode 30: Can We Make the World a Better Place?
Monday Sep 06, 2021
Monday Sep 06, 2021
Can one person change the world?
Amanda thinks so, but Mandy on the other hand isn’t so sure.
Seeing the world through the lens of the optimist or the pessimist will determine whether or not you think it can be done. Amanda, the eternal optimist, believes that if one person changes for the better, then inevitably it will change the world. We are all one piece of the whole after all. Whereas Mandy thinks that the world's problems have to be solved in order for the world to be considered a better place.
What do you think? Is it enough for individuals to change? Or do the problems of our world require greater attention? Maybe they can’t be solved at all?
Listen to the full episode as we discuss our beliefs and why we think the way that we do.

Episode 24: Critical Thinking
Sunday May 16, 2021
Sunday May 16, 2021
Why is it so uncomfortable to think critically?
We often get stuck in our own heads, repeating the same old thoughts day in and day out. We also listen to the same media sources and have like-minded friends that share our thoughts and pretty soon our whole life is one big echo chamber. Our beliefs and values become cemented, but are they really ours? How can we call them our own if we simply let ourselves be inundated by the people around us and never really challenged our thoughts?
Listen to the episode to hear us discuss how you can teach yourself to critically think and why we think it’s so vital to do so.

Episode 23: Resilience and Responsibility
Sunday May 02, 2021
Sunday May 02, 2021
Often when we think of resilience we think about "bouncing back." But there's more to resilience than just recovering after challenging events. Resilience is how we persevere through adversity and handle problems in the moment. It's closely connected to our ability to regulate our emotions, see the bigger picture, be flexible in our thinking.
As we had our discussion we began to realize that a big component of resilience is separating who we are from what we do. When we attribute our successes and failures to simply being part of who we are, we end up not taking responsibility for our actions. This can cause us to give up more easily and reinforces the negative mindset that things should just be easy.
Make sure you tune in for the whole episode as Mandy details some of her difficulties with resilience, and we each discuss how our childhood struggles affected our capacity for resilience later in life.

Episode 22: The Flip Side of Anxiety
Sunday Apr 18, 2021
Sunday Apr 18, 2021
*In this episode we talk about depression and briefly mention suicide. If you find these subjects trigger you, please consider not listening.
Depression and anxiety—which we talked about last week, are often two sides of the same coin.
Neither of us has ever been diagnosed with clinical depression (so this podcast isn’t meant to address that), but we have gone through periods in our life of feeling depressed, as many people do.
Listen in as we discuss our experiences with depression in more detail, and share different ways we prepare for bouts of dark days, and what we have found that helps us move through them.
